grade checker (noun) : 1 : a person who sets grading stakes to guide the earth-moving equipment, and who also observes the work to verify that it complies with the desired tolerances 2 : a piece of equipment usually attached to the grading equipment that is used to help the operator maintain the proper grade. A common device of this type involves the use of a laser.
